This move comes as President Ruto unveiled the State's new digital services at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC). The President emphasized that Kenyans will soon be required to use the PayBill number 222222 exclusively for making payments for government services.
President Ruto highlighted the need for better accountability, as the government is currently unable to track certain PayBill numbers utilized by different government agencies. He announced that within the next 90 days, all other PayBill numbers must be deactivated due to the lack of visibility and accountability for some of them.
The President stressed the importance of the government's dedicated pay channel, 222222, and emphasized that all government revenue should now be channeled through this payment platform. This measure will enable the Treasury to have complete oversight of every government service that is paid for.
Furthermore, President Ruto explained that once payments are made through the designated channel, the Treasury will handle the subsequent distribution of funds to the relevant ministries. By centralizing the payment process through 222222, the Treasury will ensure the smooth operation of the entire financial ecosystem. Funds allocated to specific ministries and agencies will be securely transferred through the Treasury.
