During the 2023 presidential campaign in Abuja, former President Uhuru Kenyatta gave a mild warning to President William Ruto of the deterioration of bipartisan negotiations, in a speech entitled "Freedom to growth and integration."
Uhuru stressed the importance of unity in Kenya and warned against a winner-takes-all mentality that he believed would lead to division and corrupt the prosperous.
In his speech, Uhuru urged the Ruto government to engage in dialogue with the Raila government for peace. Uhuru called for negotiations to strengthen unity and said that ignoring negotiations with the opposition led by former prime minister Raila Odinga would negatively affect the country's development process

"I still know that I must continue to play a role in promoting peace in my country Kenya. I use my voice and my platform specifically to persuade those in power, it is not a weakness to engage in dialogue with those who oppose them. Set the way forward," Uhuru told delegates.
He added that the winner will use all his thoughts only to cause division and hinder the development of the country. Uhuru's speech highlighted the importance of unity and the need for inclusive dialogue to achieve sustainable development in Kenya.
