Thousands filled Embu Stadium in Embu County on Thursday for the nation's 60th Madaraka Day celebrations, which will be led by President William Ruto.
At 6 am, the stadium was packed except for the VIP which is always reserved for VIPs, and around 8 am the parade went to its final preparation .
Madaraka Day is celebrated on 1 June each year to commemorate the 1963 day when Kenya gained its independence after 43 years as a British colony since 1920.
This is the first event to be held outside of Nairobi this year. Kenyans face intense debate over the high cost of living and the 2023 Budget.
This bill contains tax proposals to help meet government targets for the 2023/24 fiscal year.
These proposals will include amendments to various tax laws such as the Income Tax Law, the Value Added Tax Law, the Tax and Other Fees Law and the Fees Law.
However, speaking to Citizen Digital before the event, Kenyans said that they looked to President Ruto to resolve the issues and that they wanted to withdraw some requests as they were overwhelmed by the weight of tough economic times.
